Rhetoric around the Jets as they head into Thursday night’s Halloween showdown against the Texans isn’t overwhelmingly postive. How could it be? The team that came into this season with extremely high expectations is sitting at 2-6 in Week 9.
Ahead of kickoff on Thursday, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer joined in on that conversation and had some particular criticism for Jets owner Woody Johnson.

“It’s a tenuous time in the Jets building right now and for people who work there now, people who have worked there in the past, that all goes right back to the top,” he said on the Amazon Prime broadcast. “Owner Woody Johnson badly wants to win — he sunk resources to make that happen, but he’s also created an environment that the people there don’t feel like is all that conducive to actually accomplishing that. That’s because he listens to too many non-football people on football matters. He pays too much attention to what’s going on on the internet.
“And that’s led to what people there feel likes like an unpredictable boss, and right now a lot of people there are walking around on eggshells. These are things that Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas were warned about before they went there. If there is seismic change after this year — which a lot of people expect — it could affect who is willing to go there in 2025.”
Earlier this mont, Johnson fired head coach Robert Saleh while the Jets were 2-3, and the team has yet to snap what is now a five-game losing streak.
After that didn’t jumpstart the team into a season turnaround, the Jets traded for Devante Adams — who, in two games for New York, is averaging 3.5 catches per game.
They’ll look to finally end that losing streak and find some sort of momentum Thursday night against the Texans.
