Denmark's Beloved Little Mermaid from 1960 in Blanc de Chine.

6" in diameter and 4" high.
Pure seems to be the appropriate word to describe this. Or pensive.   As small as it is, it has the presence of far larger scale- like a fountain in a secret garden.  She is
lovely and nubile but shy,with downcast eyes. She's holding her tail as if to wish it
were already exchanged for the legs she wanted so badly. Difficult indeed to imagine a prince who could resist her.
Malinowski designed rather plain pieces, few colored glazes and most often
stark white, undecorated sculptural subjects.  He later worked for Georg Jensen
and Just Andersen.  He's credited with some of Denmark's best porcelain art.
This piece is in excellent condition.
